1978 yılında RAK Records stüdyolarında ses kayıtçısı olarak çalışmaya başlayan Thornalley çeşitli prodüktörlerle birlikte çalıştı.[1]The Cure grubunun dördüncü albümünün yapımcılığını kendisi üstlendi. Bu grupla devam eden albümlerinde de çalıştı.[2] 1984 yılında Thompson Twins grubunun Into the Gap albümüyle Grammy Ödülüne aday gösterildi.
Thornalley Duran Duran, XTC, Sting, Ash ve Cyndi Lauper'ın albümlerinde aranjör olarak görev yaptı.[3] The Cure geçmişinden sonra bu kez Johnny Hates Jazz grubunun üyesi oldu. Şarkı sözü yazarı ve yapımcı olarak Bryan Adams, Melanie C, Ronan Keating, BBMak, Mattafix, Holly Vallance, Shannon Noll ve Brian McFadden ile çalıştı.[4][5]
