Richard Timothy Jones Kobe, Japonya'da doğdu ve Carson, Kaliforniya'da büyüdü. Bir bilgisayar programcısı olan Lorene ve profesyonel basketbol oyuncusu olan ve Cleveland Indians'da atış eğitmenliği yapmış olan Clarence Jones'ın oğlu. Ailesi daha sonra boşandı. Jones Torrance, Kaliforniya'da bulunan Bishop Montgomery High School'dan mezun oldu. 2000 yılının ortalarında Nancy Jones ile evlendi ve 3 çocuğu oldu: Kızları Aubrey, Sydney ve oğlu Elijah.
